Task 1 - Research


Task 1 – Research

I will carry out visual and written research from a wide range of sources for my set scenario - games, film, literature, graphic novels, news and current affairs. I will carry out primary and secondary research into the audience and market for my scenario, collating my results.

Remember that you are trying to show creativity and flair and working independently to professional expectations.

Help! I'm a Fish is a 2000 Danish animated film directed by Stefan Fjeldmark and Michael Hegner, It was released on October 6, 2000 in Denmark and released on August 10, 2001 in United Kingdom.

Danish teen-pop girl-group, Little Trees performed the title track, "Help! I'm a Fish (Little Yellow Fish)", which was released as a single in the UK. Fellow Danish girl group, Creamy also recorded a version of the song. The Belgian girl group K3 also recorded a Dutch version of the song for the movie.

Animation production was split between A. Film A/S in Denmark, Munich Animation in Germany and Terraglyph Interactive Studios in Dublin, Ireland.

The Film won a reward for Chicago International Children's Film Festival had have made over £1,00,000 from the UK and Denmark.



SpongeBob SquarePants (often referred to simply as SpongeBob) is an American animated television series, created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg. The series chronicles the adventures and endeavors of the title character and his various friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. The series' popularity has made it a media franchise, as well as Nickelodeon network's highest rated show, and the most distributed property of MTV Networks. The media franchise has generated $8 billion in merchandising revenue for Nickelodeon.

Street Sharks is an American-Canadian animated television series about crime-fighting half-man/half-sharks. It was produced by DIC Entertainment and aired from 1994 to 1995, originally as a part of the Amazin' Adventures lineup. Later, in 1996, the Street Sharks teamed up with the Dino Vengers and the show became "Dino Vengers Featuring Street Sharks". It was created to promote an existing Mattel toy line of the same name. The creators were David Siegel and Joe Galliani of Mr. Joe's Really Big Productions.

Jaws is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's novel of the same name. The prototypical summer blockbuster, its release is regarded as a watershed moment in motion picture history. In the story, a giant man-eating great white shark attacks beachgoers on Amity Island, a fictional summer resort town, prompting the local police chief to hunt it with the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter. The film stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, Richard Dreyfuss as oceanographer Matt Hooper, Robert Shaw as shark hunter Quint, Murray Hamilton as the mayor of Amity Island, and Lorraine Gary as Brody's wife, Ellen. The screenplay is credited to both Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography

Sharks are use in a lot of video games and they are used mostly of a defense mechanism if the player leaves the island or adventure out to sea what they should not, a shark may attack them. Sharks are also used as an enemy AI in a game to if the game contains lots of water or the ocean. Some examples of these games are;

Resident Evil: Remake

Resident Evil, known as biohazard (バイオ ハザード baiohazādo?) in Japan, is a remake of the 1996 survival horror video game Resident Evil, developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and published by Capcom for the GameCube in 2002. At the time, the remake included state of the art visuals as well as a variety of new gameplay elements, environments and story details; Shinji Mikami has stated that it is "70% different from the original."

GTA 5

Grand Theft Auto V is an open world, action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 17 September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the fifteenth title in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the first main entry since Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008. Set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, Grand Theft Auto V's single-player story follows three criminals and their efforts to execute a number of heists while under pressure from government agencies. The game's use of open world design allows the player to freely roam the state's countryside and the city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles.

Cartoon Hangover research


Cartoon Hangover is a Frederator Studios' television channel, part of the $100 million original channel initiative, launched in February 2012. Frederator is producing an animated series exclusively for the Internet: Bravest Warriors, created by Pendleton Ward. Previously, they produced SuperFu**ers, created by James Kochalka. Bravest Warriors premiered on November 8, 2012 and SuperFu**ers premiered on November 30, 2012. Each series consists of twelve five-minute episodes and will air through 2013. Frederator also announced a fifth cartoon shorts incubator, which will feature 39 shorts dubbed Too Cool! Cartoons. Cartoon Hangover, Cartoon Hangover 2 and Cartoon Hangover ESP are part of Channel Frederator Network.

Cartoon Hangover created a new short animation episodes called Bee and Puppycat which only had 2 episodes which then they released a kickstarter to fund the the series to be official so they could make more and raised $872,133 reaching passed there goal of $600,000

The series currently consists of a two-part episode, which was uploaded on Cartoon Hangover's YouTube channel as two 5-minute shorts as part of Too Cool Cartoons!, as well as a 10-minute video combining the two parts. After garnering popularity online, Cartoon Hangover started its first Kickstarter project in order to fund additional episodes. The Kickstarter was started October 15, 2013, and achieved its US$600,000 goal with only 6 days left; by the end, they had raised $872,133, earning nine 6 minute episodes, of which the first would air in the summer of 2014. As of its funding date, Bee and PuppyCat became the most successful animation Kickstarter in history, the #4 film/video Kickstarter (only behind three Hollywood based projects), and the #1 Kickstarter based on a YouTube video.

They also made Cartoons on TV like Fairy Odd Parents on Nickelodeon and Adventure Time on Cartoon network.

Adventure Time has been a ratings success for Cartoon Network. The show first premiered on April 5, 2010 and was watched by 2.5 million viewers. The episode was a ratings smash; according to a press release sent out by Cartoon Network, the episode's timeslot saw triple digit percentage increases from the time period of the previous year. For instance, the entry was viewed by 1.661 million kids aged 2–11, which marked a 110 percent increase from the previous year. Furthermore, it was watched by 837,000 kids aged 9–14, which saw a 239 percent increase. The second season premiere, "It Came From the Nightosphere", being watched by 2.001 million viewers, marked a decline from the first season premiere, but it marked an increase from the first season finale, which was watched by only 1.77 million viewers. "It Came from the Nightospere" also marked gains when compared to the same timeslot a year prior; for instance, 732,000 kids aged 6–11 watched the episode, an increase by 35 percent when compared to the previous year. As the show has gone on, its ratings have continued to grow; the third season debut was watched by a total of 2.686 million viewers, the fourth season premiere was watched by 2.655 million, the fifth season opener was watched by 3.435 million, and the sixth season debut was watched by 3.321 million. In March 2013, it was reported that the shows averages roughly 2 to 3 million viewers an episode. According to the Nielsen ratings, the show consistently ranks first in its timeslot among boys aged 2 to 14.
